Two H2020 projects with a common goal to combat climate change joined forces on the 20th -21st of April 2023, on the occasion of the CiROCCO kick-off meeting and exchanged knowledge with a view to identify future collaboration.
More specifically, during the kick-off, a first meeting was organized by ICCS and NOA to showcase the synergies between the CiROCCO and EIFFEL projects, as well as to facilitate knowledge transfer and alignment with the GEOSS ecosystem.
In a nutshell, the actions that took place were the below:
- Investigation of synergies and first steps for collaboration between the two projects: Examples of synergies included shared research on climate change impacts, data integration, and the development of innovative tools and services for environmental monitoring and management.
- Knowledge transfer and best practices from the EIFFEL consortium to CiROCCO for GEOSS Ecosystem: Valuable insights and guidance on how to effectively integrate their project activities with the existing GEOSS infrastructure.
- Alignment of activities for the enhancement of the in-situ component of COPERNICUS for under-sampled areas: Both projects acknowledged the importance of enhancing the in-situ component of the COPERNICUS program, particularly in under-sampled areas. his alignment of activities also aimed to foster collaboration between the projects to jointly address gaps in data availability and contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the Earth system.
Overall, the activity showcasing the synergies between the CiROCCO and EIFFEL projects was an essential step in promoting collaboration and knowledge exchange. By identifying common goals and sharing experiences, both projects are better positioned to contribute to the global efforts in combating climate change and enhancing environmental monitoring and management.
The kick-off gathered 35 attendees from Cyprus, Serbia, Switzerland, Egypt and Spain (i.e. EBOS TECHNOLOGIES LIMITED, NETCOMPANY-INTRASOFT SA, INOSENS DOO NOVI SAD, Astrocast SA, CENTRE FOR ENVIRONMENT AND DEVELOPMENT FOR THE ARAB REGION AND EUROPE, UNIVERSITY OF CYPRUS, IDALION MUNICIPALITY OF CYPRUS etc.).
